I’ve had my cat Garfield for six years he’s always had a happy home and has never shown any sign of wanting to leave. In the past two year’s we’ve moved twice but he didn’t seem upset. My sister got a dog and Garfield loves her she’s a little Miniature pinscher He cleans her and everything just like she’s his kitten. So on the 6th of November 2009 I treat my mom and sister to the movies, garfield was laying in the sun on the stairs and i told him to get down because i couldn’t step over him; he and the dog were laying on the top stair, so he gets down and finds another spot where the sun is in the dining room downstairs. When we get home an hour and thirty one minutes later, i hadn’t realized that garfield was missing until like six in the after noon, (we got back home around one pm) so i ask my sister if she had seen garfield and she said she hadn’t, so i called him for a little bit and looked everywhere for him but i didn’t see him. i shrugged it off and put food in his bowl thinking that he’d come out of his hiding place and eat. but the next morning he hadn’t touched his food so i looked around for him some more and still nothing. i’ve been searching the neighborhood for him ever since the 7th but i still cannot find him. I put flyer’s up and someone keeps taking them down and it’s not a violation of the HOA to put flyer’s up. I’ve never heard of a cat disappearing into nothingness i just don’t know where he could be!!! Has anyone ever heard of a cat falling off the face of the earth? cuz i don’t know what else to do i even have posted him missing at the humane society and online, quite frankly i think he was stolen because someone keeps taking the flyer’s down and the house was LOCKED down when we left for the movies there was no way he could have gotten out none at all. my next idea is to put flyer’s up and watch for the person who is taking them down and i guess i’ll follow them home, they must have him if they keep taking down the flyer’s i don’t know what else to do… and I’m going to the humane society on thursday they had a cat that looked sort of like him but it was a bad picture and the cat was wet and the lady i talked to said he was found on the other side of town. so give me your feed back please and tell me what you think. sorry this is so long I’m just so confused and lost I’ve had garfield for a long time and I rescued him from death when he was just a kitten. He’s more like a kid than a cat to me ![]()
and no I don’t think he’s dead someone somewhere would have found a body, he’s very much alive. He was perfectly healthy and nothing could have eaten him. I just have this feeling he’s in someone’s house I took the dog out to look for him earlier today and she was sniffing all around this house I have to wait for my nerves to calm down before I go knock on their door…
LOOKED
sorry :/
and he was strictly a house cat if that helps and if he died in the house I’m sure we would smell something I"VE LOOK EVERYWHERE
to answer the second person’s questions, the house had no poisons or anything it was baby safe and animal safe, and I did notice the front door was unlocked but I cant remember which day that was because i’ve been up for a few days with minimal sleep trying to figure out what could have happened to the cat…it might have been after he disappeared we’ve been opening and closing the door hoping to see him cold and ready to come home… someone might have forgotten to lock it.

Yes – cats allowed to free roam often just disappear. But they don’t just "disappear into oblivion" they end up:
- eaten by coyotes
- dismembered by loose dogs
- run over by cars
- tortured by cruel children
- picked up sold to test labs
- stolen and used to bait fighting dogs
- in some cultures even EATEN
He’s "healthy and nothing could have eaten him"? LOL! Please. He’s a CAT. Coyotes and raccoons are well known to kill and eat house cats. As can owls. READ:

it is possible he died. when cats and sometiems dogs die they go to a quite out of the way place and peacefully die. Unlikely but posible. Either way check all the most absurd hiding places, behind crammed things, crawl spaces, fire places etc.
Was your home still securely locked when you got home? Does anyone else have a key?
There’s a good chance the cat is still in the house. He may have died or become trapped somewhere then died. Cats generally don’t show pain until it’s too late to help them so it’s possible he was sick or he could have had a stroke, heart attack, or gotten into something poisonous.
No, cats don’t just vanish. It’s possible someone stole him, but it’s more likely the person taking down the fliers is just a jerk. I’m very sorry, this is probably not going to work out well.
edit – if you haven’t already, call everyone who has a key to your home just to make sure they didn’t come by. Keep checking all the local pounds just in case. Even if they don’t have a cat who matches his description, sometimes they get that wrong. And maybe call local vets or give them a copy of your flier just in case someone brings him there. good luck.
Im very sorry about missing kitty! dont know what to say, most likely stolen, or killed. he could have gotten to the other side of town, cats travel fast. good luck finding garfield!
