miss world 2009 The US evening news said some offical was joyriding on a runway in Philippines and nearly caused an aircraft to crash. Is this true?
How safe is it to fly in Philippines? I have visited many times and this frightens the heck out of me. I’m not sure I will visit again if this is true.

yes it happened in Legaspi airport, Legaspi City, Albay few days ago.
the son of the airport manager drove around the runway with their family car stopped on the middle of the runway whilst an approaching aircraft nearly clashed with the car.
on board was the tourism secretary and spouse together with many other passengers.
now the next question is:
who gave him the authority to drive around the runway?
why?

the last news i got was that the airport controllers were late for work and there were two planes waiting for landing clearance. one decided to land anyway and the other turned back. i think this happened in zamboanga city a few months back.
Don’t worry, it happens everywhere only the cause of the accident aren’t the people in the tower control but those huge birds that goes straight to the airplane’s engine which causes the propeller to malfunction and…….crash.
About as safe as anywhere else, think a week before that airbus went into the Hudson in New York there was an airbus that sucked in a bird or two on final in Tacloban, but they got on the ground fine.
